Maria's Story: Animation Internship in Berlin
This is Maria!
Maria is a student at UNITEC studying Digital Animation & Interactive Design. Her passion and enthusiasm for working in the animation industry led her to secure an internship at Mimic Productions, an award-winning, Berlin-based 3D studio focusing on high-quality, photorealistic digital humans and characters.
Could you describe what your day-to-day looks like as an intern for Mimic Productions?
All the activities would start a few minutes after 9 a.m. and at 10 (usually) would be a meeting regarding the progress made the day before. Lunch at 1 and the work finished at 6. My tasks included assisting in motion capture sessions, assisting scanning sessions, processing motion capture data and animation cleanup.
At Mimic, everyone was nice and open to help in case of any struggle and they were really precise with their notes in case of corrections that needed to be done.
What was your favorite part about your internship?
Being able to collaborate in different kinds of projects that are impactful in various fields and being able to see my progress on my skills day by day.
Did your internship meet your expectations and how will it impact your career goals?
Indeed, my internship position will me to get through work positions regarding the different phases of the animation process and gave me an insight into my strengths and things to improve related to my animation skills in order to be better every time.
It leaves the door open for new opportunities in the animation industry; I'm aware that being part of an animation studio helps to escalate further into great projects that can have a positive impact overall.

ABI helped me on refining and working on my portfolio, and also on how to adapt to the challenges of a working environment!
ABI helped me to improve how I could present myself in the industry through portfolio and resume reviews, as well as gain better insights into the working cultures in the creative industry!
