Lauren's Story: Virtual Social Media Internship
This is Lauren!
She studied at the University of Auckland and graduated in 2022 with a Bachelor of Arts in Art History and English. Lauren then landed a virtual internship with The Brag Media, a music publishing company.
What does your day-to-day life look like during your Virtual Internship at The Brag Media?
My virtual internship at Brag Media enabled me to branch outside of my academic world and experience a different kind of writing in the form of social media marketing and internet journalism.
Each day I would have control of different social media accounts and post about the latest concerts and upcoming artists in New Zealand and Australia, as well as write some articles – through which I saw myself grow as a writer.
A few times, I even got to transcribe interviews between my supervisors and industry professionals, offering me a unique insight not only into the interview and article writing process but an in-depth understanding of the big names themselves.
The Brag Media is the publisher for one of the biggest music magazines, Rolling Stone
What did you learn during your internship at Brag Media?
I got to experience editing, proofreading, and research positions, aiding my supervisors with their projects. It was especially interesting because I got to deal so much with the music industry, both mainstream, and indie. I now have professional articles under my own name, and I couldn’t be more proud or happy with my experience.
How did ArtBound Initiative help you?
ABI was a great help in connecting me with potential internships and helping me to find the perfect one. Not only did they help me narrow down my options based on the experience I was looking for, but they also helped set up potential interviews for me. In addition, they coached me on how to network, how to plan for the future, self-branding, and so much more.
