Jessica's Internship Story: Gallery Assistant in Berlin
This is Jessica!
She is a graduate of The University of Manchester, holding a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature and a Master of Arts degree in Gender, Sexuality, and Culture. Jessica did a gallery assistant internship at BBA Gallery, a contemporary art gallery located in the center of Berlin.
Can you tell us about your responsibilities at BBA Gallery as a Gallery Assistant Intern?
I was placed at BBA Gallery, a contemporary art gallery in Berlin. They represent a range of contemporary artists, host exhibitions, and run two international prizes.
During my gallery assistant internship, I was responsible for producing written content for newsletters, collaborating with another colleague to write press releases and exhibition texts, and running the gallery's Twitter account. I was also the project manager for a big exhibition which we held in an external venue. I headed up artist communications and organized shipping, equipment, etc., for the entire exhibition. It was a lot of work and wasn't always easy or entirely appreciated, but I am grateful for the experience.

What do you believe will be the influence of your art gallery internship on your career?
I got a huge amount of experience in such a short space of time, and I hope that the range of tasks and high level of responsibility I dealt with will look great on my CV going forward. I like the fact that I got both project management and writing experience, as I feel like it has kept my options wide open in terms of the direction I want to go in.

They set me up with accommodation, which if you know Berlin is a very, very useful thing! They also ran events through which I met some amazing people and had great experiences.
