Jamie's Story: 2D Animation Internship in New York

Jamie graduated from The College for Creative Studies, Detroit, with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. After obtaining her degree, she decided to join the ArtBound Initiative program and landed an internship at The Studio NYC, a New York based full-service production and animation company. Could you describe what your day-to-day looks like as an intern for The Studio?
My role was to help with any in-house or client projects that were in demand. The in-house work involved animating in After Effects, while the client projects had me working in Illustrator and Photoshop to create assets.
What was your favorite part about your internship?
My favorite part during my time at The Studio was when there was a project focusing on creating AI storyboards. I got to learn how to use 3 different expensive AI programs for free! I had a lot of fun working on it, and on top of that, the whole team was always eager to answer questions and help out when I ran into trouble which I really appreciated!
Did your internship meet your expectations and how will it impact your career goals?
Yes! Before the internship, I knew I really wanted to delve into a studio's inner workings and broaden my experience with client projects. This internship has allowed me to explore a lot of new things! I'm hoping to use these new techniques to further enhance my work and to assist future studios even more effectively.
How did ArtBound Initiative help you the most?
I have to give ArtBound major credit for helping me get into contact with The Studio, if it hadn't been for the portfolio review with someone in my industry I would never have gotten the chance for this opportunity.
The resume and portfolio coaching helped me a lot to prepare for this internship, and having access to all of those resources will continue to be beneficial for me.
