Gabrielle's Story: Production Internship in New York

This is Gabrielle!

Following her graduation with a Bachelor of Arts in Film Production from the University of Canberra in Australia, Gabrielle completed a production internship at Jean Doumanian Productions in New York, with the help of ArtBound Initiative.

Tell us more about the company you interned in!

I interned for three months with Jean Doumanian Productions; an Academy Award and Golden Globe-nominated, and Tony Award-winning, film, television, and theatrical production company founded by producer Jean Doumanian in New York.

What were some of the tasks and learning opportunities you had in the realm of theatre, film, and television?

My main role as a script analysis/production intern was to cover an array of scripts; from television pilots to theatre productions, to then asses their potential in being produced by Jean Doumanian Productions. I was also assigned smaller tasks such as staying updated on current theatre shows across the globe during the new spring season releases and researching agents for potential cast members. 

Kathryn and Jeffrey from Jean Doumanian Productions also provided mini-seminars on what we were interested or curious about learning more about in the realm of theatre, film & television. 

Kathryn and Jeffrey generously shared their knowledge and past Jean Doumanian Productions project examples of film festival strategies and budgeting. Their openness and willingness to share created such a positive and safe environment to learn and grow as a film director.

ArtBound Initiative provided me with the support and platform to confidently flourish as a film director and creative in the global film and theatre industry.
