Tell us more about your experience during your Studio Art Internship!

Throughout my studio art internship experience, I relished the incredible opportunity to gain an inside look into the creative community of this major artistic hub. My studio art internship was with the painter and photographer Erik Schmidt. He provided me with an incredible chance to gain hands-on experience in the crafts and engage in insightful discussions about the life of a studio artist.

My main tasks with Erik Schmidt consisted of preparing canvases for painting, making base paintings from Schmidt’s photographs, and organizing and cataloging materials.

How has this experience impacted you professionally?

My studio artist assistant internship helped me better understand the creative arts field. In university, there's a lot of development of artistic talent and understanding and analyzing others' art, but there isn't as much focus on how to be a working artist.

Through this exposure to the field, I got hands-on experience of what it's like to actually organize shows, work in a studio, and be a part of a working community.

How has ArtBound Initiative helped you?

The support and the network have been the best - I never felt alone.

I have learned valuable insights into the realities of being a working artist, knowledge that is challenging to impart through any other means than experience. This has helped me understand both my preferences and dislikes regarding the work.
