Tanvi's Story: Design Internship in New York
This is Tanvi!
She is a Communication Design student earning a BFA at Pratt Institute, with a focus on Graphic Design. Tanvi would then join the ArtBound Initiative program to gain more real-life work experience and interned at the NYC creative agency, Code & Theory!
Tell us more about your experience during your Design Internship at Code & Theory!
I interned at Code and Theory in New York. They are a digital-first strategy-driven agency that works at the intersection of creativity and technology. They work with leading companies from different industries and develop branding and digital products (websites, apps, etc.).
I worked as an Interaction Design Intern. My role would vary depending on the projects but it involved researching and developing strategy to inform the product system and design to meet user needs and business goals. This was followed by building wireframes, and working closely with visual designers to optimize the user experience in the hi-fidelity design. I also assisted in creating annotated mockups to hand off to developers.

How did your internship experience contribute to your professional growth?
This internship was a great learning experience and an opportunity for me to meet and connect with extremely talented professionals in the industry. It helped me build my working style, as well as expand my technical skills.
The internship challenged me to work in a fast-paced, highly collaborative, strategy-driven environment where every design decision fits into a larger narrative involving all the different disciplines at the agency. Most importantly, the internship helped me strengthen my confidence in myself as a designer.

How did ArtBound Initiative support you through your internship?
As an international student, the process of searching for, applying, and doing the internship is a very daunting process. ArtBound Initiative was an amazing opportunity for me as they supported me throughout this process.
They helped me at every stage whether it was building my profile, connecting me to different companies, or checking in during my internship. The process was extremely detailed and smooth which was very reassuring and helped me build up that confidence as an applicant and an intern.
ArtBound Initiative equipped me with all the necessary tools and advice that I needed going into the internship and provided an excellent platform.
