Mia's Story: Social Media Management Internship in New York

This is Mia!

Mia is a Communication graduate from Auckland University of Technology (AUT) in New Zealand. In Summer 2025, she flew to New York after landing a Social Media Management internship with SCOPE Art Show, a premier and critically acclaimed contemporary art show, through the ArtBound Initiative program. During her internship, she even had the opportunity to travel to Miami with the team and participate at the high profile Miami Art Basel!

How would you describe your day-to-day at SCOPE Art Show?

I would always check in with my mentor to see if there was anything pressing they needed me to finish before anything else at the start of the day, otherwise I would be drafting, scheduling and posting on their social platforms which included a lot of research around different exhibitions going on as well as finding the right content for each post. Then check my two email accounts that I was managing and kept on top of those throughout the day. Towards the end of my time at SCOPE I started creating videos for some of their content series such as "Grabbing Time With" or "Why We Show".

How do you think this internship will impact your career?

This internship met most of my expectations. I think it helped me develop my professionalism and people skills which will be very useful if I decide to go for a studio/agency job in the future.

In what way did ArtBound Initiative helped you the most?

ABI helped the most when it came to organising visas and housing. I would have struggled a lot more if there wasn't a step by step guide on what to do.
