Logan's Story: Script Development Internship in New York City

Logan is a Bachelor of Science in Communications student at North Carlina State University who joined the ArtBound Initiative program and completed a Script Development internship at Jean Doumanian Productions in New York City. Jean Doumanian Productions is an independent film, television, and theater production company known for producing award-winning projects across stage and screen.

Could you describe what your day-to-day looks like at Jean Doumanian Productions?

Everyday I was given an active creative project in the theatre scene, and read the script while providing coverage on it. I wrote up papers including the stories premise, synopsis, and my personal coverage and comments on the material. For comments I would consider how developed the storytelling is, the narrative, character arcs, the pacing, clarity, or even how commercial this script and play would be. It was typically two pieces of coverage a week, while also maintaining theatre research, like tracking current shows in the area, talent agents, possible directors, and what new scripts are being written from up coming talent.

How do you think this internship will impact your career?

Being a part of a creative industry job, truly has made me more invested and sure of my wanting to be involved in the industry. I think what this internship helped me learn the most is the endless positions in the industry that can help you stay connected. Aside from now having this experience, I feel like it has helped me be more aware of how many people JDP talk to each day that make these projects come to life, and how there is a pathway everywhere.

How would you describe the way ArtBound Initiative helped you the most?

ArtBound, aside from getting me connected to something I wouldn't have known existed otherwise, has filled me up with confidence and courage in an industry that is important. Having an immediate network of people who all share the same belief is incredibly validating, and ArtBound showed me I am not crazy for wanting these things, and I am capable.

ArtBound gave me the confidence, courage, and community to believe in myself and my place in the creative industry.
