Katherine's Story: Production Internship in Chicago

This is Katherine!

Katherine is a current undergraduate student at Northern Kentucky University studying Playwriting. She joined the ArtBound Initiative program to gain hands-on experience and further develop her skills in media production. She completed her production internship with Big Shoulders in Chicago, where she was involved in organizing equipment, assisting on shoots, and creating video tutorials. Could you describe what your day-to-day looks like as an intern for Big Shoulders?

Much of my internship involved helping to organize and operate equipment. I also had the opportunity to write, film, and direct tutorials for other interns to use. One of the highlights was getting to travel around Chicago for video shoots!

How would you describe the environment and general atmosphere at your internship?

Big Shoulders had a very laid-back atmosphere - it was often self-paced, and we were trusted to manage our own time. Only three people worked full-time in the launch pad studio, and they were all very helpful and easy to get along with. The experience there was incredibly rewarding.

How would you describe the way ArtBound Initiative helped you the most?

ArtBound prepared me with the necessary demeanor and language for a professional setting through their coaching process. These skills are essential for thriving in the workplace, and I was able to gain many that I will continue to use throughout my career.
