Joaquin's Story: Virtual Business Strategy Internship

This is Joaquin!

With a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, majoring in Entrepreneurship from Hong Kong Baptist University, Joaquin took a step toward gaining real-world experience through the ArtBound Initiative program. After completing the program's curriculum and personalized coaching sessions, he joined Under Her Empire—a virtual internship opportunity focused on empowering women-led ventures. This experience allowed him apply his academic knowledge in a dynamic, mission-driven environment. Read more below!

Could you describe what your day-to-day looks like as an intern for Under Her Empire?

Most of my responsibility is compiling research about: competitors and competitive landscape, market research, partnership, and funding opportunities. I also presented findings to my supervisors and team, where I was constantly met with feedback and motivation. Each time I presented my findings to the team it was met with constructive comments and conversations on developing strategies. It felt very rewarding and was obvious that development was the most important aspect in each meeting. The team was friendly and it was naturally comfortable for me to connect with the rest of the team which led to developing a real friendship amongst the team.

What was your favorite part about your internship?

The favorite part of being given huge responsibility to take on research tasks and having my work be referenced in other aspects of the team's work. It made the work I made feel more important and meaningful!

Did your internship meet your expectations and how will it impact your career goals?

My internship left me satisfied and cemented my confidence within myself and my capabilities. I learnt so much as a researcher and what it means to work with a team outside of Hong Kong, especially in the business world. I believe this also pushed my skill in presenting, team work and developing digestible information in a timely manner with great detail.

It helped me connect with individuals in the business world that helped me grow as a professional. It allowed me a network that helped me in my start up endeavours.
