Ike's Story: Post Production Internship in Chicago

This is Ike!

After graduating from Governors State University, Ike joined the ArtBound Initiative program to take the next step in his creative career. In Summer 2024, he secured a Post-Production Internship with Indirap, a Chicago-based production company specializing in impactful digital storytelling. Could you describe what your day-to-day looks like as an intern for Indirap?

Prepping recorded footage for the variety of clients INDIRAP produced for — from cleaning up and organizing raw footage, to creating narrative cuts for later edits, and producing the final social cut. My time at INDIRAP greatly helped me understand what I wanted to aim for as a creative professional.

What was your favorite part about your internship?

The most fun process was something I didn't realize until the last day. All the signage that I initially thought were for decoration and aesthetic, only to subconsciously realize the lyrics in the signs. It made me appreciate Instagram's music connection to make the hint more obvious.

Did your internship meet your expectations and how will it impact your career goals?

Every time I see another editor and their process, I take a bit from how they operate. This internship has now changed the entire way I edit, from organization, handling scale, to even understanding whether I truly wanted to go freelance or target agency work.

How would you describe the way ArtBound Initiative helped you the most?

One of the things I’m most grateful for with ABI was the guidance I received in redesigning my portfolio and the connections I made along the way. I'm glad I made the effort to attend more events—it truly changed my life. Those connections led to a potential future opportunity and helped me build habits that you simply can't learn in a classroom.
