How would you describe your day-to-day at Michael Reid Galleries?
I have been doing two days a week 10am-5pm at the Michael Reid Galleries in Chippendale/Redfern Sydney. I started out working directly under the Head of Marketing, Harry Roberts and assisted him in creating posts for the social media channels across the 5 different gallery spaces they run.
Over the course of working there I've taken on multiple projects that intersect with my main role as well as some outside of it. I've helped create branding for specific exhibitions that the gallery has run/will run, I've helped create branding guidelines for the Galleries overall branding, and I've helped edit photos/do other odd jobs around the gallery.
What aspect of your internship is most enjoyable?
I think the part I have enjoyed the most has been being able to be able to use my skills as a designer in a real commercial environment for the first time and be able to see that work used. For example, while its not out yet, I have worked on doing wordmarks for an upcoming exhibition that will take place in the US, and I've also been requested to work on creating Decals for the gallery space. Being able to see my work used to represent this exhibition (as well as others I've worked on) has been a really meaningful moment that I feel has made a meaningful mark on the beginning of my career.

Has your internship met your expectations?
Going in I was nervous, I was worried I might not be able to do the work they needed me to do, or that my skills would not be up to spec. However now I realize that this position was actually a really good fit. The work isn't easy but its definitely rewarding and it's shown me what I'm really capable of doing in the right environment, and the lovely people at the gallery have made me feel seen in that regard.
This internship has turned into a permanent part-time position! It's been a fun journey with both the gallery and ABI and I am glad that I got the opportunity to sign up with ABI and get my foot in the door with the creative industry.
In what way did ArtBound Initiative helped you the most?
I believe it really helped me clean up my Portfolio & Resume and improve my self-branding. It also just helped me learn how my skills translate to a professional working environment. And lastly it helped me land a permanent part-time job in my field of expertise!
