Anna's Story: Production Internship in New York

Meet Anna!

After graduating from The New School in 2025, Anna joined the ArtBound Initiative program to bring her dream of becoming a scriptwriter to life! To sharpen her storytelling skills, she completed a production internship at ICYMI Productions, a boutique NYC firm specializing in documentary, commercial, and branded content.

How would you describe your day-to-day at ICYMI Productions?

My day-to-day tasks include pre-production research, editing videos, filming videos for events, writing treatments for potential scripts to develop. During the two productions I was involved in, I worked as a production assistant working with the background actors and with the art department helping with the set design.

The environment and general atmosphere of my internship is very collaborative. My supervisors are eager for the interns to dive into real work that helps move the needle on their productions and are very willing to help us out when we have questions or concerns. It's a valuable learning experience with people who seem to actively cheer on my career advancement.

Has your internship met your expectations?

The internship has met my expectations. I was interested in working at ICYMI Productions because I wanted to learn the ins and outs of production and I got more than I expected. From live events to film sets I learned what goes into putting on a show in different mediums.

The aspect of my internship that I've found the most rewarding is being given tasks and responsibilities that I didn't have much knowledge of before. Specifically, for the latest film production I was the primary location coordinator and I was surprised by how much I enjoyed that work. This won't make me change my career goals, but has given me valuable tools to understanding film production from beginning to end.

In what way did ArtBound Initiative helped you the most?

ArtBound Initiative has helped the most with providing a lifetime creative career network to tap into. And I think this is invaluable as creatives often don't have a linear career trajectory.
