ABI Profile: Kelly

KELLY

graduated from Hungry Creek Arts & Crafts School in 2019 where she was majoring in Jewelry Making and Design. Kelly started to intern for The Line of Sun in Melbourne in the Summer of 2020. She has landed a full time opportunity with the company since then.

Kelly got accepted for an internship at The Line of Sun in Melbourne. Alice, the founder of The Line of Sun, began experimenting with jewelry making in 2012.

Alice started learning about the ancient tradition of jewelry making called the Lost Wax Technique – a process whereby each piece is first carved from wax by hand, and then cast in precious metals. This sculptural practice means a great deal of texture can be created in the wax model and holds these details in the final metal piece.

"The internship I was placed with combined my passion for jewelry making and my curiosity to learn of how a small business operates. I’m so grateful I get to use all the skills I learnt in art school and I am growing to be more and more confident in business operation, especially in this industry. I wholeheartedly believe in The Line of Sun's mission and I have never felt more appreciated in workplace before now."

A focus on sustainability and local manufacture is of huge importance at The Line of Sun. All of the pieces from the company line are designed and handcrafted in Melbourne.

"My internship with The Artbound Initiative has massively impacted my career, it has kickstarted my career. Before I started with The Artbound Initiative, I was an art school graduate in an absolutely new city. I had no job prospects, no connections and I had no idea where to begin."

"My internship is a major part of why I have a job today. I don’t just hold any job either. I have my dream job at an amazing company in the most vibrant city I’ve ever lived in and a bright future a head of me."

" I wake up pinching myself everyday because I’m still shocked about how lucky I am and I am so so grateful to the Artbound Initiative Internship Program"
