ABI Profile: Antonia

ANTONIA

is a screenwriter based in Sydney who holds her BA in Screen Production from the Australian Film Television and Radio School (AFTRS). She did an internship at Jean Doumanian Productions in New York in the spring of 2020.

"I interned for Jean Doumanian Productions in Manhattan, a production company know for its work in theatre, film, and television. Although my main task was script coverage (in which I would read scripts and provide breakdowns and feedback)."

"I was fortunate enough to be there when they were about to open the play Hangmen. This meant I also got to see all the work that goes into opening a play and got to see the show for free in previews. I would often also do research on various actors, directors, writers, and other production companies for the sake of future projects, given me a keen insight into how all of these things are created from the very beginning."

"As a wannabe screenwriter, I think my time at Jean Doumanian has shown me how I can get my foot in the door, given that it's a tough industry to break into. This is aided by the offers from my supervisors to help me make connections not only in the states, but also in Australia and the United Kingdom - not to mention getting to add a New York City internship to my resume!

"I also think that my time there showed me a lot more about the world of theatre and opened doors for me possibly pursuing a career in that field, as prior to this, I was only interested in film and television."

"I think one of the best parts of ArtBound is that they're there for you every step of the way. Although I would have perhaps found a way to get an internship, a visa, accommodation, etc, on my own, ArtBound made the process so much more simple. There was constant communication and checking in, not only before I flew over, but during my time there and in the aftermath as well. They made an intimidating experience so much more comfortable and easier to deal with, and I knew I made the right choice by going with them."
