Madeleine's Story: Gallery Internship in Berlin
This is Madeleine!
A freelance art writer now based in Berlin, Madeleine studied Art Management at RMIT University and completed her internship through the ArtBound Initiative program at SomoS Art House, an art organization in Berlin.
What does your day-to-day life look like during your Gallery Internship?
My internship was with SomoS Art House, a gallery space with an active artist residency program and cross-disciplinary programming.
With an active events and exhibition schedule, my tasks and responsibilities were diverse and adaptable to artists needs and requirements. These included managing communications internally and externally for SomoS Art House, writing copy and event information for social media posts about exhibitions and events at the gallery, producing artist pages, assisting artists directly with exhibition installations/setup, providing event assistance and gallery-sitting.

What did you learn during your internship?
My internship has allowed me to experience the arts with a new perspective. Engaging with artists, curators, directors, and audiences from highly diverse backgrounds and with a myriad of practices gave me new ideas and inspiration to tailor my own creative practice and professional goals.

How did ArtBound Initiative help you?
The ABI program renewed my motivation and determination to forge a more defined arts career, and I would recommend ABI to anyone who is seeking a more dynamic professional internship experience, and who is ready to apply themselves to make the most of the invaluable creative networks ABI provides.
This internship will impact my career by providing the foundations on which success is only limited by what I commit to achieving.
