Eliakim's Story: Fashion PR Internship in New York

In the Summer of 2023, after graduating from Miami Dade College's Miami Fashion Institute, Eliakim landed a fashion PR internship at Area, a fashion and accessories design studio specializing in quality craftsmanship, textile development, and innovative embellishment.
What does your day-to-day look like?
My daily tasks during my fashion PR internship at Area varied from day to day and involved several objectives. I was responsible for managing and coordinating the distribution of PR samples to relevant media outlets, influencers, and industry professionals. This also included maintaining a detailed database or inventory system to track PR sample requests, shipments, and returns.
Furthermore, I oversaw the monitoring and management of sample returns, coordinating with the appropriate parties to ensure seamless and timely returns to the company. In addition to these tasks, I frequently traveled by foot or train to collect or drop off requested garments as needed. Alongside my internship, I also held the role of Founder & Creative Director at Grimace Art Projects.

Did your internship meet your expectations, and how will it benefit your long-term career goals?
The internship did meet my expectations in terms of providing valuable insights into the technical and logistical aspects of the fashion and media industry, especially from a PR perspective. However, I also recognized that to enhance my knowledge and value in the fashion world, it would be beneficial to delve into fashion marketing, an area which a PR sample trafficking role can contribute to. This experience has already advanced my career goals and has provided me with a solid foundation in the marketing field.
What was the most helpful thing ArtBound Initiative did?
ArtBound has helped in so many ways that this entire process, and everything I've taken and absorbed, is thanks to ArtBound Initiative. However, some of the best ways that they have helped were primarily by assisting me in fixing and creating a more professional resume. Secondly, they provided me with advice and tips on methods to leave a lasting and great impression wherever I stepped foot.
