Shaina's Story: Project Management Internship in New York
This is Shaina!
Shaina studied at Parsons with a Bachelor's in Communication Design and a Minor in Photography. Later, she secured internships in New York with two different companies: Rise & Set Agency, an insight-driven marketing agency, and Spring Studios, an agency creating communications for fashion, beauty, lifestyle, and luxury brands!
Describe your experience during your Project Management Internship!
My Fall 2021 internship was as a project management intern at an experiential marketing agency called Rise & Set, in New York. The company works with luxury brands and non-profit organizations to execute high-end events such as fundraising galas, conferences, film screenings, and more. As a project management intern, my responsibilities revolved around supporting the team in various capacities.
I worked on the creative side of the projects by assisting with the creation of decks, graphics, print material, and other such collateral. Additionally, I learned about the business and servicing the clients by creating agendas, the Scope of Work, invoices, Run of Shows, and doing some copywriting and AV work for the events.

What are the valuable lessons you learned during your experience?
This internship helped me gain important skills in a challenging professional setting and exposed me to people in the creative industry and beyond. It helped me gain confidence in conducting myself and communicating with clients and peers.
I definitely feel that I’ve got a head start toward achieving my career goals, and as a result of this experience, the path to reaching them has become way more clear and attainable.

What did ArtBound Initiative help you with the most?
ABI gave me the opportunity to enter the creative industry and get connected to a lot of important people with great networks in the fields of events, design, publishing, and more. I was able to gain experience and exposure to the way projects are handled with big clients and learned how to deal with tough deadlines and expectations in a professional setting.
The network I formed through ABI has helped me accelerate my career goals and land my next job at Spring Studios as a Marketing/Business Development intern — bringing me one step closer to achieving my goal of working at a creative agency and becoming a Creative Director. During that internship, I designed marketing materials, covered events as an in-house photographer, collaborated on branding for experiential projects, produced creative concepts, and managed communications across platforms.
ABI gave me the opportunity to enter the creative industry and brought me one step closer to achieving my goal in becoming a Creative Director.
