Marian's Story: Graphic Design Internship in New York
This is Marian!
Marian studied Graphic Design at California College of the Arts, San Francisco. After graduating, Marian decided to join the ArtBound initiative program which landed her a graphic design internship at Exclamation Group, an events company in New York!
Tell us more about your Graphic Design Internship!
For five months, I had a part-time graphic design internship at Exclamation Group, a New York-based agency that arranges events for high-end international brands.
I interned as a remote junior graphic designer. My responsibilities included creating proposals and presentations showcasing prospective venues for clients. One of the major yearly events organized by the agency is in Puerto Rico for the French spirits brand, Remy Cointreau. I was fortunate to work with the lead print media designer, contributing to the design and sourcing of merchandise vendors.

What valuable things did you learn during this experience?
Working as a graphic designer in a design agency has always been a goal of mine. During my internship at Exclamation Group, I gained valuable insights into the workings of such agencies, including how coworkers collaborate and the types of projects assigned to designers.
Additionally, I learned important lessons in communication, adaptability, and openness to criticism, which I believe are essential qualities for success in any design firm.

What did ABI help you with the most?
ArtBound Initiative granted me the opportunity to experience what it was like to work in an unpredictable environment as well as to learn from it. ABI has granted me the tools and coaching necessary for me to communicate well, become a professional, and collaborate with other coworkers. If it weren't for ABI, I wouldn't have had the opportunity of working on interesting projects.
