ABI Profile: Alexandra
Alex
studied Marketing with a Minor in Entrepreneurship and Innovation at Michigan State University in 2020.
Alex then landed an internship at the creative agency, ReflexGroup in New York!

This internship gave me a well-rounded perspective on how a creative agency functions. It allowed me to scratch the surface of a lot of the different tasks across the board. As an account manager, I can play different strengths to the different roles I apply to for my future.
For example, if I'm applying for a copywriting role, I can talk about how I helped name color swatches for an extensions company, which took a lot of creative juices; or how I helped think of brand names for a biotechnology beauty company's rebrand; or taglines for different campaigns for all sorts of brands within different markets.

If I'm applying for a production or project management role, I can tell the recruiter that I assisted/oversaw a fashion photoshoot for LBV and helped source products the day prior such as a red velvet curtain and stool. I can discuss how I got to estimate assets needed for a shoot for an A-list celebrity a different time; how I scouted talent online for makeup and hair artists, reached out to photographers and animators for their rates and availability, and even set up calls for my supervisors with a few of the prospects. I additionally outlined potential locations for the shoot in our internal decks.
Lastly, if I'm applying for a social media role, I can discuss how I found and matched influencers for different campaigns through a database and my own research. This role will impact my career because just in three months, I've gathered useful knowledge from both observation and daily tasks across a wide range (especially because there were so many different clients we were working with at once within this time frame). Now I can pick and choose whichever make the most sense to highlight with whatever creative direction I decide to go into next.

ArtBound Initiative helped me see past my own ways that I was stuck in at times during the internship. They were a professional voice of reason and helped me along the way in communications and ways to contribute more to my role. They also provided a good group of people to be with in and outside of the program. ArtBound Initiative's network alone is worth it! Past your internship they will continue to help you if you ask for help. And even if the internship is not what I expected, I have no regrets with my decision as I was held accountable to develop myself creatively and professionally in ways my school didn't teach me.
ABI helped me develop my creative and professional skills and provided an amazing network!
